MISSION STATEMENT: The Association of California Commissions for Women is a champion of Women causes, providing, Advocacy, Education and Resources to the California Commissioners community.
TIME COMMITTMENT: This is a “working” board. Each board member is expected to fully participate in the functions, programs, and projects of The Association of California Commissions for Women (ACCW). It is necessary for each board member to chair or co-chair at least one committee. The ACCW is responsible for many of the critical functions of The Association of California Commissions for Women. It is estimated that each board member will devote 20-40 hours of work each year to their commission role using their commission knowledge.
BOARD COMPOSITION: 1-9 elected voting members. Of those members, the following officers are selected: President (2-year term), 1 Vice (2-year term), and Treasurer (2-year term) Secretary (2-year term). Past President, 1-2 North Cal Representative, 1-2 South County Representative, shall be elected for a two-year term each year. Parliamentarian director has no vote.
All newly elected board members will be seated at the Annual June meeting and will serve as non-voting members until July 1 at which time they will become full voting members of the board. Retiring directors will continue to serve as voting members until July 1.
The nominating committee will review all board member applications to determine the most appropriate candidates for the ballot. The applicate must consider a commissioner in good standing with their county commission. The applicants must have a background, involvement, and level of commitment for women’s advocacy. We ask that the candidate Commissioner have not missed more than 3 meeting in a calendar year or any 12 months from their county or city commission meetings.
TERM: 2 years or the remainder of an unexpired term.
MEETINGS: The Board meets the Fourth Tuesday of every month except November and December when meetings are held earlier in the month. In November of every year, the regular monthly meeting is replaced by a full day retreat on Saturday. Other than the November planning meeting, meetings begin at 7pm on the phone or zoom and end at approximately 8:00pm.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance at all board meetings and general membership meetings is strongly encouraged. If necessary, however, occasional absences may be approved. Additionally, board members are encouraged to attend the monthly Calls fourth Tuesday of each month), periodically The Association of California Commissions for Women sponsored events.
FINANCIAL COMMITTMENT: Board members are encouraged to support The Association of California Commissions for Women functions whenever possible; As an associate member.
